City Launches Ambitious Green Transport Plan

A major investment in electric buses, cycle lanes, and pedestrian zones aims to cut emissions by 40% over the next decade.

The city council today unveiled a sweeping new transport strategy designed to reduce congestion and improve air quality across urban areas. The proposal includes the rollout of more than 300 electric buses, expanded cycling infrastructure, and additional low-traffic neighbourhoods.

Council leaders say the plan could reduce transport-related emissions by nearly 40% by 2036 if fully implemented. Local businesses have expressed cautious optimism, though some retailers remain concerned about reduced vehicle access in busy shopping districts.

Environmental groups welcomed the announcement, calling it one of the most comprehensive local climate initiatives introduced in recent years.
